Yamaha CFX

9' Premium Concert Grand Piano

On July 15, 1887, a young watchmaker/medical equipment repairman named Torakusu Yamaha repaired his first reed organ. Encouraged by his success and eager to meet the demand for high quality musical instruments, Mr. Yamaha created a prototype reed organ of his own. Once completed, he decided to present it in person to what is now the Tokyo National Unviersity of Fine Arts and Music... but the journey was not an easy one. Yamaha and his business partner hand-carried their invention on a pole 155 miles across the mountains of Hakone only to have it rejected. The instrument was well-made, but the tuning was inaccurate - so Yamaha stayed in Tokyo for a month so he could master music theory before making the 155 mile journey home again. Upon his return, Yamaha worked from 5am until late at night - day after day - until he completed his second prototype. Again, he and his business partner hand-carried the organ to Tokyo (155 miles across the Hakone mountains) and were thrilled to receive high praise from the music school. Yamaha returned home in triumph and founded the "Japan Musical Instrument Company." Today, we know this company as Yamaha Corporation - the largest musical instrument company in the World.

Yamaha's culture of "innovation, feedback, and refinement" began with their founder - Mr. Torakusu Yamaha. Inspired by his example, Yamaha's engineers and piano artisans dedicate their lives to building the finest pianos possible and to making them available to as many people as possible.

With this in mind, it's no surprise that Yamaha spent over 39 years - and billions of dollars - to develop the newest generation CFX Yamaha concert grand piano. A combination of design innovations, new technologies and artist feedback, the CFX Yamaha concert grand piano is at the very pinnacle of piano design. From professional players like Elton John, John Legend and Sarah McLachlan to institutions like the Moscow Conservatory, Juilliard and Stanford University, the CFX Yamaha concert grand piano dominates the World stage.
