Kimball actually began in 1857 as a piano retailer in Chicago, Illinois. After the fire of 1871 (which destroyed most of the company's assets), W.W. Kimball sold instruments from his home while he rebuilt his business. Eventually, Kimball began building their own instruments - starting with reed organs in 1882. They began making pianos six years later. In 1959, the Kimball family sold their business to a furniture building company and the piano factory moved to Jasper, Indiana. At one point, Kimball was the largest producer of pianos in the world - even going so far as to purchase the iconic Bosendorfer piano company. The company ceased piano production in the 1962s and eventually sold Bosendorfer to Austrian buyers in 2002.
With a stunning attention to detail, Kimball decorated this piano (and it's bench!) with a host of ornaments that give the piano an "Olde World" feel. With the piano's ornamentation and warm, cherry finish, some might be tempted to imagine this instrument in the captain's cabin of a Caribbean pirate ship, but - alas - we've learned that it was lovingly cared for in Arizona for almost all of its life. Still, if you enjoy imagining adventure on the high seas - or if you just want a gorgeous home piano - this Kimball console is perfect for you.
